As some of you may be aware that my long break from Anarchy Online is over as I have been quite tied up with real life issues for the last year. There have been a lot of in-game changes as well as changes in what services are out there for users to use. Websites have went AWOL and a few new ones have emerged. With this, some of the plugins require changes to interface with the new locations that bring you the best results.

I am working with the folks at Buddabot to produce services that will work with all AO Bots to avoid duplicate efforts. There is a great need to rework all the nano databases since Funcom has committed to the rebalance of professions and reduction of nanos. This will be started when the other services are caught up. It will be hosted at ao-central.com once the website is operational. We will probably be sticking to JSON since it to work with in C#, PHP and Java.

Some of the major changes planned are to use a different method that VhaBot uses to build AO windows that will allow for simpler methods rendering AOML. Changing the plug-in structure is still high on the list. MEF is an option that is being looked at. Furthermore, the use of SQLite needs to be ended since it requires tricky changes to get it to work on both 32 bit and 64 bit machines. Also SQLite only allows one connection at a time. Other embedded data structures are being looked at to maintain both database performance and to use true .NET native coding.

We will be doing a major overhaul of our website here.  The overhaul is due to changing web technology that has rendered our current website very difficult to maintain.

The website will be updated over the next month in incremental updates. Please bare with us as we move forward with the process.

Additionally, a new and improved build of VhaBot will be developed, with a number of huge changes to the core and the plugin structure.

The website is in the process of a server move by getting a new host. The current host, which is CentOS  based has become unreliable.  We will be moving the website to a Windows Platform. This will enable the website to easily  interact with Vhabot using .Net for the the more advanced features that are planned in the future.

Development for Vhabot has resumed after months of inactivity.

Vhabot development was temporary frozen for the following reasons:

• Funcom: Uncertainty of Funcom’s dedication to Anarchy Online.  With so many delays in their development of the “New Engine” and the lack of communication with fans, it is still a major concern. Population has dropped considerably, and Funcom does not seem to have a realistic plan of action.
• Personal work loads: I had a massive .Net project at my real job that took every waking moment to finish.
• Website Issues: The CMS that is being used had a number of updates that crippled the website here at vhabot.com. Those issues have been resolved. However, the site has a complete makeover planned.
• Vhabot 1.0: Vhabot 1.0 was completed in December 2013, and has yet to be released do to time constraints. The official release will be coming soon. It is noteworthy that the new version is not compatible with Mono and requires .Net 4.0 Framework.  Vhabot comes with a number of changes that makes threading more reliable and reduces lag time considerably.
• Future Planning: Plans are being made for a brand new version of Vhabot that will revolutionize chat-bots on Anarchy Online. With all due respect, the current bots, BotSharp, Vhabot, and Budabot uses the same outdated methodology. Vhabot 2.0 will be designed to perform as an enterprise application, including how the bot is interfaced.

It is the hopes that Funcom starts to place more effort into Anarchy Online to increase the population of the server and to give us the impression that they care about their flagship product.
